Bali Fab Fest is the world’s biggest digital fabrication event for local and global innovators to to Accelerate Baliโ€™s transition towards a regenerative economy. It is a unique event in which the 17th Fab Lab Conference and the 7th Fab City Summit will converge.ย 


The thematic focus in Bali is “Designing Emergent Realities”, aiming to boost the transformation of the island’s economy through the harnessing of local and global knowledge. Our efforts will be orchestrated using the Fab City Full Stack, a multiscalar framework for developing new strategies for distributed production in cities and regions.

The goal is to establish a library of locally available and environmentally friendly materials suitable to be used by makers. Next to natural, locally grown materials, we will look into materials such as festival waste, invasive species, used materials, new materials made at other workshops, leftover materials, etc. The library will be open-source, made in a way that will invite everyone to add new materials to the collection later on. The library will thus grow over time and serve as a convenient tool, inspiring local and foreign makers to develop their projects in a more sustainable manner.

      I want to talk about fab.city opportunities with BIM, VR/AR technologies. We, who follow the Fab movements, try to better understand the pains exacerbated by globalisation, i.e.trade wars, COVID, tax evasion, environmental abuse, unfair trade & unfair labourโ€ฆ to say a few. Some of the trickle down effect from globalisation is very evident in a remote and vulnerable place like Tasmania! In the last 3-4 decades we have lost many industries to globalisation and the few recent Tasmanian industrial success stories are often related to advanced technologies -- what validates and reinforces the fab.city ethos and framework. On a positive note, whilst Tasmania lost much of its industries -- Tasmania has become a โ€˜go to placeโ€™ for environmental and COVID refugees. I have been following fab.city more closely since 2018 and more recently have been volunteering to help the Hobart City Council finding ways to implement fab.city sustainability framework -- whilst avoiding additional implementation cost. For that we are trying to map the fab.city vision; kow-how and advanced capabilities opportunities with the local policies underway in the Sustainable Hobart Action Plan.     On the first day, we'll explain our aim and show the final products that the attendees will make. We'll also introduce Raspberry Pi zero. Then we'll start by explaining how to assemble the Lime, the first stage of the Lemon kit. After that, we'll show how to install the hardware and code the robot. We'll allow the attendees to play and experiment with it for the remaining time. On the second day, we'll continue with Satsuma which is the robot turtle, and finally Lemon, the advanced robot dog, and continue with the same steps. We also want to race the quadruped robots in the end.

    The workshop will demonstrate how to design and build an ecological toilet that uses human urine as a source of bio-stimulant as a nutrient for growing leafy green and fruiting crops. Using low cost materials the workshop will introduce concepts such as hydroponics, basic electronics, plumbing, plant germination and the importance of water conservation. The workshop aims to create synergy between the innovations developed by Green Lab using urine digestate and the need for farmers to adopt and develop new ways of growing crops using naturally occurring minerals and new innovative ways of recovering and developing fertilisers.

    On the first day, we'll explain our aim and show the final products that the attendees will make. We'll also introduce Raspberry Pi zero. Then we'll start by explaining how to assemble the Lime, the first stage of the Lemon kit. After that, we'll show how to install the hardware and code the robot. We'll allow the attendees to play and experiment with it for the remaining time. On the second day, we'll continue with Satsuma which is the robot turtle, and finally Lemon, the advanced robot dog, and continue with the same steps. We also want to race the quadruped robots in the end.
